How to manage class discussions.....

I am interested to hear your words of wisdom on managing class discussions. How do you facilitate engagement and voice in quiet students? How do you handle it when the same people do all of the talking? What bothers me most about the latter is often the speaker is not saying anything helpful or substantial; mostly gaining the spotlight. I look forward to hearing from the voices of experience!

iPads in Virginia Classrooms

Interesting article from Roanoke.Related to last week's lecture, the reading Overused and my own experiences balancing home and work technology with three kids and their school technology, I do wonder about how we evaluate short term ROI vs. long-term ROI with every tech/time investment.

Recent thoughts

I came to this program for many reasons, just like all of you. A few years ago, I was teaching 3 or 4 classes each term, the maximum for adjuncts. Suddenly, the work stopped coming as "my" classes were moved to the online college. "How can anyone learn Human Relations online?" I asked. I was a little indignant. To teach online at my school, one requires a PhD.
